Like Father Like Son
On my Texas tour I had the good fortune to take headshots for a father/son theatrical team. Scott, the father, is a director and dramturg. And he needed new headshots for work he's doing for Masquerade Theatre Company in Houston. He looks like a guy you'd want to work with wouldn't you say? Smart, handsome, warm, earnest. The pictures don't lie folks, he's all of those things and so much more.
Including and especially, proud Papa to his two boys Ashton and Duncan. And while Duncan is indeed theatrical (The Alley Theatre's 2010 Tiny Tim) it was Ashton who needed the headshots. Because this kid is absolutely certain he wants to be an actor. Certain that he is an actor. (Heck, he's logged WAY more Equity hours than I have.) He's heavily involved with Masquerade's Tribble School of Professional Musical Theatre and is throwing himself into his studies with extreme passion and dedication. And knocking socks off right and left. Click here to watch his YouTube video singing "Home" from The Wiz. He was 10 when this was performed.
He's 11 now. And straddling that line between boy and teen which I think we captured well in his photos. Remember his name and his sweet face. Because this kid is going places.

Caren Evers
Caren took advantage of my current Actor special and decided to treat herself to some new headshots. Just to float them by the agencies and casting directors - to remind them of who she is. What looks do you want to capture I asked. "Young Mom and Corporate, that's all I get called in for anyway" she said, with the familiar resignation of knowing her type but feeling bored and limited by it. Trust me, I can relate.
Done.
And done.
But Caren is so much more than those two things. She came relaxed and prepared, no pressure on herself to get "perfect" shots. And was just PRESENT.
She had fun and let her true colors show - the leading lady, the siren, the best friend.
Clearly she's beautiful. And has very photogenic features. But what I love is the depth and versatility that emerged from the shoot. I hope this means she'll be getting called in for more roles, she can certainly handle anything that's offered her. And now she has the pictures to prove it.

Amy Wells Kelley
This post could also be titled - When Good Things Finally Happen to Good People.....
Amy Wells Kelley is not an actor. She's a writer. Another writer? What can I say, I know A LOT of writers. And this one? Just so happens to be one of my nearest and dearest.
Amy recently had a total life transformation. In a flash of events that all happened so quickly I'm still dizzy, she quit the in-it-way-too-long Joe Job (which turned into a career due to her intelligence and work ethic) and was HIRED to WRITE full time.
Yeah, something to smile about for sure!
These pictures were actually taken for her moonlighting writing/editing job which she still does and loves. This one says book jacket to me. Book jacket! Squeal!
Oh! She's also building a website and launching her own company. In her "spare time". Which is rather genius and I have no doubt she'll sky rocket to fame and fortune, and one day I just might be lucky enough to work for her. Again.
This Cinderella story couldn't happen to a nicer more hard-working girl. And there are reasons, very significant and multiple reasons, why this is a long time coming and needed to happen to Amy. She's been through a lot. And when you think you've been through a lot, you haven't. Not like she has. And managed her trials and struggles with grace and humor and strength. So to see her finally reaping the rewards of her passion is not only well earned but well deserved.

Andrew Hinderaker
"He's a playwright."
"What? You mean he's not a heartthrob actor?"
"Nope."
"What a waste of a pretty face....."
We started the day with facial hair. And the guy can work a beard.
This shot was a nod to UT Austin where he's moving in August to start his MFA in Playwrighting. As a fellow Longhorn I couldn't be more excited for him. And Austin. With this rockabilly cool vibe he's workin' he's going to fit in just fine.
Don't let his pretty looks fool you though. He is quiet, a little shy, modest, and the word he thinks best describes his writing (and absolutely describes his personality) - earnest.
Andrew is having a world premiere of his new play, Suicide, Incorporated, this summer at the Gift Theatre. Happy little subject right? Actually this dark comedy slowly unravels into a meaningful and profound work of art. And the dedication and passion with which the playwright has intended for this to be a vehicle of outreach to that scarred community of people whose lives have been touched by suicide is what makes this man so remarkable. And it's clear that his depth and yes, sadness, propels him forward into his work with a well defined sense of call.
